About the Department/College
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at NAU is housed within the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). The DPT Program offers one hybrid and two residential Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs-one at the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC) and the other on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus. As part of NAU's New Economy Initiative, the DPT Program plays a crucial role in educating future physical therapists who will address health disparities in Arizona. Program members collaborate with community and academic partners to break down barriers and increase access to physical therapy education, ensuring a well-prepared workforce for the evolving healthcare landscape.
About the Position
The NAU Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is at the forefront of Competency and Entrustment-Based Education (CEBE), a progressive approach designed to meet the diverse and evolving healthcare needs of society. This model integrates learning outcomes and assessments across didactic and clinical education, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for the complexities of contemporary physical therapy practice. The DPT Program seeks a highly motivated and innovative faculty member who embraces this CEBE paradigm shift and is adept at utilizing technology to enhance health professions education. With a diverse faculty team, we welcome applications from candidates with expertise across all primary areas of physical therapy practice.
Responsibilities Include
Job duties associated with the competencies expected for a faculty member responsible for teaching and conducting scholarly activities in varied areas of a physical therapy curriculum include:
- Curriculum Development: Design, implement, and evaluate curriculum content, instructional materials, and assessments to ensure alignment with program goals and accreditation standards.
- Teaching: Deliver engaging lectures, facilitate discussions, and provide interactive, hands-on learning experiences to foster deep learner understanding.
- Assessment: Measure learner performance and program outcomes, offering constructive feedback to support individual progress and continuous program improvement.
- Research: Conduct, publish, and present scholarly research; actively contribute to collaborative research initiatives within the discipline.
- Coaching and Mentorship: Guide and mentor learners to support their academic, clinical, and professional growth.
- Clinical Practice: Demonstrate and integrate advanced clinical skills in acute care practice, bridging theory and real-world application in educational settings.
- Collaboration: Build and maintain interdisciplinary partnerships with colleagues, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to advance practice and scholarship.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing learning to remain current with advances in clinical expertise, teaching strategies, and evidence-based practices that enhance instruction and research.
Minimum Qualifications
For Assistant Clinical Professor:
- Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Arizona.
- Entry-level doctoral degree in physical therapy (DPT) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience.
- Contemporary expertise that represents knowledge and skills reflective of current practice.
For Associate Clinical Professor:
- Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Arizona.
- Entry-level doctoral degree in physical therapy (DPT) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience.
- Contemporary expertise that represents knowledge and skills reflective of current practice.
- Defined area of scholarship with a record of dissemination.
- Service at institution/program and professional levels.
- Previous or current academic appointment at rank, or academic record equivalent to associate.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal academic doctoral degree (i.e. PhD, EdD, DSc) from an accredited institution in a field related to physical therapy.

Compensation
Commensurate with experience. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
Pre-Employment Check
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Also, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
