Special Information
- This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
- This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.
- This position is a 12-month, non-tenure eligible position.
About the Department/College
The Institute for Human Development (IHD) is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences located on the campus of NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona. IHD is an interdisciplinary unit and the oldest Institute at NAU. IHD is part of a national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), working to increase access, improve attitudes toward, and increase inclusion of people with disabilities.
About the Position
IHD staff develop and lead programs in four core areas:
- Research and evaluation;
- Service;
- Interdisciplinary education and training;
- Dissemination as related to improving life outcomes of individuals with disabilities.
These core areas are aligned with the vision and mission of IHD:
- Vision: People with disabilities fully participate in all life experiences.
- Mission: Promote full inclusion by advancing attitudes that value persons with disabilities and enhancing access to all aspects of the human experience.
Note: This position is supported by grants, contracts, and other funding sources as available. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding.
Responsibilities Include
- Secure extramural funding to advance the research agenda of IHD.
- Conduct original research within your area of expertise.
- Collaborate on and support research initiatives across IHD.
- Lead and assist with program evaluation activities.
- Publish peer-reviewed scholarly work in your field.
- Support the dissemination of research conducted within IHD.
- Supervise and mentor master's and doctoral students.
- Provide service to IHD, the university, and the broader academic community.
- Achieve sustainability of the position by significantly contributing to securing external funding through grants and contracts within three years.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to disability and health.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in social sciences (e.g., psychology, health, sociology, social work, statistics, anthropology) or related field.
- Applied experience and tangible outcomes (e.g., publications or reports) utilizing a wide range of research designs and related analytical procedures, which may include descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental, experimental, qualitative, and mixed-methods.
- Demonstrated ability to determine the best research designs and methods for specific research topics.
- Five years of research experience, preferably in an academic setting.
- A record of scholarly achievement.
- Experience leading evaluation activities.
- Demonstrated positive experience working as a productive member of a team.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Established record of publications and a well-defined research agenda in a field relevant to disabilities.
- Proven success in conducting high-impact, academically rigorous, and extramurally funded research, including demonstration and implementation projects.
- Advanced expertise in quantitative research design and analysis, essential for guiding interdisciplinary research teams.
- Experience in quantitative research design.
- Proficiency in survey development.
- Strong background in quantitative data analysis, including regression analysis, MANOVA, and MANCOVA.
- Documented record of high-quality teaching, with demonstrated ability to mentor and advise students in the applicant's research area.

Compensation
Commensurate with experience. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
Pre-Employment Check
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
