Special Information
- This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
- This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
- This position is a remote position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at a location other than an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. The incumbent may occasionally work in a shared site, but primarily will work elsewhere.
- This position is posted as Employment Accommodation Analyst/ Deputy ADA Coordinator, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Accessibility Analyst, Senior.
- Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. Disability Resources (DR) leads collaborations with students, faculty, staff, and the campus community to cultivate a universally designed environment, and facilitates the removal of existing barriers for the full inclusion of people with disabilities.
We ensure access through design, services and accommodations at no cost to all Northern Arizona University students and employees with disabilities.
About the Position
The Employment Accommodations Analyst/Deputy ADA Coordinator serves as the primary contact for employees with disabilities requesting reasonable accommodations. The Coordinator interacts with employees and supervisors to identify workplace barriers and determine modifications or accommodations. The Employment Coordinator also acts as an advisory contact to University departments and personnel regarding access to the workplace and universal design and collaborates with relevant University units to provide leadership, technical direction, and support to the campus community in increasing access to the employment environment at Northern Arizona University.
Responsibilities Include
Accommodation Management and Assessment - 60%
- Engages in the interactive process with employees and supervisors to remove workplace barriers and implement effective modifications or accommodations.
- Determining whether an individual meets the definition of a person with a disability under the definition provided in the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended.

Documentation Review - 10%
- Reviews relevant documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations, maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

- Assesses how impacts effect requestors essential job functions

Accommodation Advisor - 10%
- Serves as primary advisor on reasonable employment accommodations.
- Identifies barriers to employment of people with disabilities.
- Provides ongoing consultation to departments and supervisors related to approved accommodations.
- Works with departments to implement universal design approaches to essential functions.
ADA Correspondence and General Communication - 5%
- Prepares correspondence and maintains employee ADA files.
- Creates and communicates determinations about eligibility and reasonable accommodations to employees and supervisors.
- Maintains employee ADA files in the department database
- Creates an official record of all steps in the interactive process.
- Ensures confidentiality of employee ADA records and communications.
Program Specialist - 5%
- Serves as a program specialist responsible for reasonable accommodation policies and practices affecting employees with disabilities.
- Reviews current policies and practices related to Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act and identifies any need for changes or updates.
- Assists the ADA Coordinator in crafting and implementing necessary changes to policy and practice.
ADA Compliance - 5%
- Assists ADA Coordinator with oversight of University Programs/Facilities to ensure compliance with ADA requirements.
- Evaluates facility compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.
- Acts as the ADA Coordinators designee for ADA related grievances, when necessary.
Other - 5%
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special education or related field.
- 3 years of relevant experience.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD. in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special education or related field
- 3 year of experience in EEO/Affirmative Action.

Knowledge
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws regarding accessibility.
- Knowledge of industry trends regarding equitable hiring and workplace practices.
- Advanced knowledge of accessibility tools, procedures, processes, policies, and concepts.
- Advanced knowledge of typical techniques and methods of assessing disability and functional limitations.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Full proficiency in reviewing typical assessments of disability.
- Conflict resolution skills.

Compensation
Salary range begins at $67,714. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
Pre-Employment Check
Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Also, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.
This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
